Ascot Vale House

A new house for a client requiring cutting edge sustainability on an Ascot Vale site.

Not blessed with good orientation, a courtyard was introduced mid way to provide northern orientation for the kitchen/dining area and first floor study.

Materials: corrugated steel, and silvertop ash radial sawn cladding,

Sustainable features: passive solar design, concrete slab and concrete block boundary wall provides thermal mass, high specification insulation, led lighting throughout, solar hot water with gas boost, hydronic heating, solar PV array, solar breeze passive heating and cooling, rainwater tank connected to WCs and irrigation, double glazed windows, ceiling fans, recycled hardwood from the existing house was salvaged and reused for screens and gates.

This house achieves a 7.2 star energy rating despite the sub-optimal site orientation.
